Izabella Herzfeld IF WIND WOULD BE YOUR LANGUAGE…- Open rehearsal and Q&A | SPIELRAUM

SPIELRAUM – the Days of the Independent Performing Arts Community in Berlin

On 19 September, we are opening the doors for a special evening: discover the poetic dance performance If Wind Were Your Language… by Izabella Herzfeld and take an exclusive look at the new theatre piece Komische Vögel. Sie kamen, sie sahen, sie fliegten, they flew by Vanessa Stern.

If wind would be your language…- Izabella Herzfeld

If wind would be your language… is an artistic research with Butoh dance, video projection and a mainsail. The dancer, musician and sailor creates whimsical shapes, shadows and sounds through her movement in nature recordings projected onto a huge sail. The constantly changing interaction between body, light and textile creates a poetic visual language inspired by the elemental power of the wind. Based on hissing sounds and noises, the performer invites us to create a language out of air and thus become part of the scenery.

The event will conclude with an open discussion in which the artist will provide insights into her creative process and answer questions.
**Recommended for ages 10 and up, suitable for all ages.

Komische Vögel. Sie kamen, sie sahen, sie fliegten – Vanessa Stern

Komische Vögel by Vanessa Stern is based on the 300 or so starlings that have decided to demise as migratory birds and spend the winter at Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station. They feed on fast food. Some of them imitate the S-Bahn signal.
In this piece, almost only original texts are spoken by people who are about to observe birds or who talk about how they have observed birds. Birds are neither present nor audible. There are no VR goggles and no one is naked. Classics are not quoted.

The theatre makers putting this play on stage belong to a species whose numbers are in sharp decline, perhaps even threatened with extinction. However, this statement lacks any scientific basis, as the populations of theatre professionals are not mapped.
World premiere on 2 October at TD Berlin.
