“Kukuríku” tells the story of Holocaust survivor Kurt’s return to a farm in southern Germany, where he was once hidden but then handed over after being forced by the farmer to impregnate his wife Lili. Thirty years later, he returns to find his son. The play grows out of the burning question of the German-Israeli relationship – in the face of new times, new generations and established mechanisms. How does one live with the past?
With mask theatre, music and recordings from the 1930s, we try to use a leap in history to draw attention to how we might move forward.
