A contemporary dance project by Company STEVE in 5 acts about the 5 human senses:
Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling
What attracts us to explore the five human sensory experiences?
Our senses are the channels through which we perceive the world; the filters through which external
Information enters and our own impulses reach the outside world. Where do our senses take us?
What dynamics are they tuned to from an evolutionary point of view? What have they developed for
developed?
Our senses and our brain have developed in order to reduce the uncertainties in our lives, to minimise
to minimise danger and unfamiliar situations. They transform the inherently uncertainty into certainty – every moment, every day. The biological motivation behind many of our habits and social, cultural, even political or religious automatisms is the desire to reduce uncertainty the desire to reduce uncertainty by following rigid rules in a futile attempt to disconnect ourselves from a world Attempt to disconnect ourselves from a world that is alive precisely because it is interconnected and constantly in motion.
In their first study “Act 1: TOUCH”, Company STEVE explores the human sense of feeling.
Accompanied by live music by composer Stefano Ciardi and together with vocal artist Daniela Marcozzi, dancers Tea Nadir and Verena Steffen move dynamically and poetically through tactile metaphors, poetic way through tactile metaphors. The piece swings in and out of our skin and transforms the theatre space the theatre space of the Expedition Metropolis theatre into a place of gentle touches, violent Clashes, lively encounters and surprising realisations.
