In “Those who do not think against themselves, …”, director, philosopher and systemic trauma therapist Malte Schlösser and his team examine the functioning of neoliberal and psychological defence mechanisms that prevent our society from coming into contact with one another.
Where is the language that enables us to discuss our own violence?
In Malte Schlösser’s production, the three performers struggle to speak out about the unstoppable reproduction of their own communicative violence without sinking into guilt and shame, or hiding in their absence and keeping their complicity at bay. They look for ways to consciously deal with their traumas without getting lost in the minutiae of individual misdemeanours that do not reflect the big picture.
In his socio-critical theatre texts, word acrobat Malte Schlösser attaches great importance to grasping the complexity of connections and ambivalences and not being satisfied with simple answers. He constantly questions his findings, contradicts himself and searches for the connections between the way society functions and his own individual nervous system.
What does the ability to criticise actually mean? How does it work?
