Traces evokes encounters, negotiates positioning and makes the invisible visible.
In the course of life, we inevitably cross paths with other people, and in these moments a subtle but significant interaction arises. Every encounter leaves its mark – on those involved and in their environment. But what effect do these contacts have? What influence do they have on biographies and identities? Sometimes they enrich and strengthen, at other times they remain superficial or even leave unwanted traces that want to be wiped off again. Regardless of circumstances, emotional state or consciousness, encounters play an essential role in becoming and passing away. They shape experiences and form identity in many different ways.
The performers of the Berlin collective Walashé bring Afro-diasporic dance culture to the theatre stage. They combine styles such as popping, krump and house and at the same time lend a special meaning to materials and sounds – in the spirit of these cultures. The audience is an active part of the performance and helps to shape the space through its participation.
