Utherow or Don’t believe everything you think. Memories are indispensable to us. We hold them to be immutable truths, they make us who we are, shape our identity – but they are deceptive. They change and are reshaped every time we remember them. What does it mean for us when our image of our own past begins to waver?
In the three-character play Utherow oder Glaub’ nicht alles, was du denkst, the sisters
Lola and Josepha meet after a long time in the house they inherited from their parents. What begins as a reunion quickly develops into a struggle over their own and their family’s history: old conflicts flare up again, different versions of memories collide – and then Olivia, a former school friend of Josepha’s, suddenly turns up. With an agenda all of her own. On this journey into the past, everyone has to face the question: How sure can we be that what we remember is really true?
Utherow is the debut play by young East German author Anne Lemke, which was produced in collaboration with Shakespeare2Go
