Two actresses and a hundred-year-old teddy bear. They join forces to fight against the tide of time: Why is military prowess sexy again and peace a thing of the past? What is war anyway? And where does it begin – outside or inside? With childlike seriousness, wild imagination and many clever books in tow, the three venture into NATO headquarters. After all, they must know!
Why do humans wage war? And can they even achieve peace? Voices and images from the past emerge: the 20th and 21st centuries, at first clearly distinguishable, then indistinguishable. The horror, the fear, the small moments of happiness by the Christmas tree. We do not know the future, the end.
Theatre makers Magdalena Scharler and Jenny Wübbe have been artistically connected for many years through their joint work in the award-winning independent Berlin theatre ensemble syn:format. Magdalena Scharler works as a freelance actress and director in Germany and Switzerland. Play development is at the heart of her work, and in 2014 she founded syn:format. Jenny Helene Wübbe combines acting, dance and text as a freelance performing artist. The production KRIEG ODER FRIEDEN (WAR OR PEACE), funded by the Ministry of Culture and European Affairs of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is her first play development as a duo and will premiere in Thandorf in January 2026.
