netzwerk sponsors & friends
theaterhaus berlin has been a production centre and networking platform for the independent performing arts in Berlin for over 30 years. Every year, we produce over 300 plays that are performed on independent stages in Berlin and around the world. In close cooperation with artists, venues and cultural policy actors in the city, theaterhaus berlin is committed to the structural strengthening, networking and visibility of Berlin’s independent performing arts community.
We are currently involved in the following networks:

Berlin Bühnen
The online portal Berlin Bühnen bundles the repertoires of over 100 Berlin theatres, operas and concert halls on one website, in one calendar. The joint programme offers an overview of Berlin’s diverse theatre landscape: from the state and municipal theatres with their ensembles, the three major operas and the state ballet, private theatres, independent venues and concert halls to children’s and youth theatres.
The magazine and the monthly newsletter expand the offer with event tips, insights and news. The service menu provides tips on buying tickets, guided tours and friends’ circles, and introduces summer open-air stages, theatre cafés and canteens. Special offers are also published regularly. The Opera-O-Mat also provides playful inspiration for the next evening at the opera or ballet.
Alliance #BerlinIstKultur
#BerlinIstKultur is an action alliance that has been networking Berlin cultural institutions, associations and solo artists since the end of September 2024 under the campaign of the same name and addresses the importance of culture for the city of Berlin to politicians. It was formed under the pressure of impending cuts to the city of Berlin’s cultural budget for 2025 and 2026.
#BerlinIstKultur makes it clear: culture is not a “nice-to-have” for Berlin, but its heavy industry. Its diversity generates and links many professions in the creative and manufacturing industries. The cultural diversity and quality of the institutional and independent arts is recognised both nationally and internationally and also serves as a flagship for the tourism industry.

Förderband e.V. Cultural Initiative Berlin
Förderband e.V. Kulturinitiative Berlin is the sole shareholder of Kulturinitiative Förderband gGmbH, which operates the theatrehaus berlin with its two locations in Mitte and Schöneweide. Förderband e.V. is a cultural initiative that was founded in 1989 in East Berlin to facilitate and promote independent cultural work. The organisation develops its own artistic, cultural and media projects and also offers specialist advice and support for external projects.
Current and past projects organised by Förderband e.V. include “Berlin für Blinde ” – the first Berlin guide in audio format; “Berliner Spielplan Audiodeskription” – a pilot project to establish audio descriptions for blind/visually impaired people at Berlin theatres; “Berlin erzählen” – a project that conveys the views, opinions and perspectives of people with disabilities on our living environment; “Tanz zwischen den Welten ” – an alliance for education to support hearing-impaired children; “Wasserspeicher ” – The use of the water reservoirs in Prenzlauer Berg has been coordinated by Förderband e.V. since 1994. The reservoirs are available for artistic projects by independent artists and groups.
Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH
Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH promotes art and culture by creating a sustainable spatial infrastructure for artistic work. To this end, it works closely with stakeholders from the property industry, the independent scene and the state administration. Kulturraum Berlin gGmbH was founded in 2020 as a subsidiary of the public-law Foundation for Cultural Further Education and Cultural Consulting in order to take over the operational sponsorship of the state of Berlin’s workspace programme and to further develop this funding programme.
As part of the workspace programme, spaces are allocated and funded to professionally active, freelance artists based in Berlin. Since 2021, Kulturraum Berlin has regularly published available spaces on the “Kultur Räume Berlin” website, for which professional artists can apply.

Coalition of the independent scene Berlin
The cross-sector coalition of Berlin’s independent scene was founded in March 2012 to draw attention to the serious undesirable developments in Berlin’s cultural budget and to develop innovative approaches for a future-oriented cultural policy. The Coalition of the Independent Scene is resolutely opposed to a cultural policy that increasingly subordinates art and culture to economic exploitation pressures. This practice jeopardises the autonomy of art and undermines its social relevance.
As an open platform, the coalition promotes dialogue with associations, networks, initiatives, groups and individuals from the independent scene. It discusses and formulates cultural policy demands, develops concepts and initiates campaigns to represent the interests of the independent scene in the long term.
LAFT Berlin – Landesverband freie darstellende Künste Berlin e.V.
LAFT Berlin – Landesverband freie darstellende Künste Berlin e.V. – represents the interests of Berlin’s professional independent performing artists vis-à-vis the public and politicians. With the state association, they have created an instrument with which they can effectively support their artistic activities through representation, publicity and services. The diverse and extremely flexible professional independent performing arts scene in Berlin needs a representative organisation that publicly formulates common interests and needs and engages in courageous and continuous lobbying. LAFT Berlin helps to create a constructive dialogue about the problems and demands of the independent performing arts community in Berlin.
Scenography Association
The SZENOGRAFIE-BUND is the professional association for stage, costume and make-up designers, set and costume designers for film, television and video, puppet designers and puppet theatre designers as well as video artists and lighting designers for theatre. The association promotes the exchange between members from all federal states and is committed to making the important contribution of stage and costume designers and other visual artists in theatre productions, film and television projects visible to the public. The Scenography Association also represents the cultural, artistic, social and professional interests of its members and is politically committed to the interests of the profession.
