4RUDE 20TH ANNIVERSARY SERIES Programme V – the being – ruins-

The protagonist of this work is an abandoned structure as a whole, whose future—demolition, renovation, or preservation—remains undecided. Inside, unused objects lie beneath a large protective cloth. The audience enters the space as trespassers, encountering the structure for the first time in decades and observing a single day in the life of the ruin.

An old woman appears as a manifestation of the structure itself. Initially dormant, she is reactivated by the arrival of the audience, the first human presence in decades. In response, the cloth begins to move, the sound of a clock resumes, and imperceptible elements seem to enter into motion.

Butoh is a form of expression that encompasses not only the movement of organic bodies but also extends to inorganic materials such as dust, glass, wood, and mist. These elements can be understood as bearing memory and agency through movement. This expressive dimension of Butoh is closely aligned with the theme of the present work, in which the abandoned structure is approached as a site shaped by accumulated time, material presence, and former social activity.
