From then on, letters were the only means of maintaining a sense of closeness despite the distance. Martha Bernays was more than a match for the young Freud. Time and again, she manages to soothe her slightly sensitive and jealous fiancé with wit and charm. This staged reading presents a carefully curated selection from over a thousand letters.
