Sigmund Freud and Martha Bernays – A Conversation in 1,000 Letters.
In 1882, Martha Bernays and Sigmund Freud secretly became engaged in the Prater in Vienna. Immediately afterwards, Martha was forced to leave the city with her mother. From then on, letters were the only means of maintaining a sense of closeness despite the distance. Martha Bernays was more than a match for the young Freud. Time and again, she manages to soothe her slightly sensitive and jealous fiancé with wit and charm. This staged reading presents a carefully curated selection from over a thousand letters. Look forward to the interplay of warm and cool emotions – an evening full of humour and depth!
