Ready for new perspectives in the world of dance?
The KUYUM Dance Platform 2026 invites you to a unique festival that presents and promotes neo-African choreographies and brings together international artists of both African and non-African origin who incorporate African movement languages into their artistic practice. The festival kicks off on 12 and 13 September at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) and continues from 16 to 20 September at the Uferstudios Berlin.
But what exactly is meant by neo-African dance? Neo-African dance combines techniques, aesthetic principles and performative forms of expression from African dance traditions with contemporary choreography. Emerging from transcultural encounters and the experiences of the diaspora, it opens up new artistic perspectives on the body, movement and identity. The focus is on contemporary dance practices inspired by African movement languages, which are translated into innovative choreographic forms.
In its sixth edition, the KUYUM Dance Platform presents nine international dance productions, including three world premieres and four Berlin premieres. The stage programme is complemented by workshops, audience discussions and other engagement formats that invite people of all ages to exchange ideas, network and learn together. In the workshops, participants have the opportunity to discover and experience for themselves the diverse rhythms and movement languages of the African continent.
The KUYUM Dance Platform sees itself as a diverse and inclusive space that promotes artistic participation, transcultural dialogue and cultural exchange.
Come along and discover new perspectives on dance, movement and connection!
