A Monstress Mess production in collaboration with Sound Duo Ekheo LA VOIX HUMAINE

By Jean Cocteau

Paris 1920 & Berlin 2020. One text. Two women.
Two women are on the phone struggling through the end of a romantic love affair – saying the same words, in different languages, a hundred years apart. In this reimagining of Jean Cocteau’s La Voix Humaine, the infamous monologue becomes a dialogue and a sonic exploration into the intimacy of the human voice through the lens of two very different women, who are connected by the universal experience of heartbreak. Performed in German and French, with English surtitles. Live performance & sound curation from French-Austrian sound duo Ekheo who manipulate and distort the actresses’ voices creating sonic spaces that reflect, amplify and challenge the characters psyche. An intimate exploration of the human voice, love and the fragile line between control and collapse.
