Information and networking event
Culture needs strong voices, reliable structures and, above all, solidarity. In the run-up to the Berlin House of Representatives election on 20 September, the second action week of the #deinestimmefürkultur campaign, organised by the #BerlinIstKultur alliance, will take place from 1 to 12 September. Through numerous events and initiatives, cultural institutions, associations and initiatives across Berlin are joining forces to highlight the importance of a diverse, freely accessible and sustainably secured cultural landscape.
On 4 September, together with partners from Berlin’s cultural landscape, we invite you to the theaterhaus berlin / Mitte venue for the information and networking event ‘Strengthening the Independent Arts Scene’, to create a space for information, advice, meeting and exchange as part of the action week. Participants include LAFT Berlin, the Performing Arts Programme Berlin, Bühnenmütter* e.V., Szenografie-Bund e.V., Förderband e.V., Raumbüro Freie Szene, KUYUM Arts and the Berliner Spielplan Audiodeskription.
From 12 noon, the Berliner Spielplan Audiodeskription invites you to an interactive experience trail that playfully demonstrates what everyday life and cultural visits can feel like from the perspective of people with visual impairments. There will also be opportunities to engage with people with visual impairments, as well as discussions with politicians about cultural participation and accessibility.
The joint networking and exchange meeting beginsat 3 pm. LAFT Berlin and the Performing Arts Programme will be on site with their own information and advice stands: staff will provide insights into counselling and mentoring services, be available for brief consultations, and offer information on opportunities to get involved in cultural policy and voluntary work within the independent arts scene.
The Performing Arts Programme will also be presenting its services, publications and activities. Anyone fancying a digital exploration of the independent performing arts scene can try out the web game “SPIELRAUM FREIE SZENE BERLIN” on the day.
The Szenografie-Bund, Bühnenmütter* and the Raumbüro Freie Szene will also be on site with an information stand, providing details on their counselling and networking services aimed at promoting fair, family-friendly and sustainable working conditions in theatre and the independent cultural scene.
Förderband e.V., a long-standing organiser of projects such as ‘Berlin für Blinde’, ‘Wasserspeicher Prenzlauer Berg’ and ‘Berlin erzählen’, will be providing information on the association’s work to date and the opportunities to get involved in the future through membership, new initiatives and projects.
Theaterhaus Berlin will also be present with an information stand and will open selected rehearsal spaces as well as its open-air stage to offer insights into the current rehearsal processes of Jasmin Hawlicek and her new play ‘THE GIRLS’ HELL – THE UCKERMARK GIRLS’ CONCENTRATION CAMP’, Ashley Temba’s “Dream in Man”, part of this year’s programme for the KUYUM Dance Platform 2026, and Ana Pogorelić and Aleksander Zain’s project “The Maids”, a choreodramatic adaptation of Jean Genet’s absurdist theatre classic “The Maids”. The afternoon will then draw to a close with group discussions and networking.
