arthaus.berlin THE DEBUTANTES. FESTIVAL OF NEW WORKS

Pull on your cowboy boots, walk down to the shore, find yourself on a strange new planet and look Death in the face with The Debutantes: three evenings of magical and manifold new devised works. The Debutantes is a collaborative festival of solo and collective devised performance presented by recent arthaus.berlin MFA graduates debuting their work to audiences of Berlin. The festival will show four unique pieces over the course of three evenings: Cole & Robbie, cowboy blood, Tick Tock, Herr Männer, and The Beach.

In Tick Tock, Herr Männer, Felipe Lopez Bettin’s clown takes a dark journey through masculinity, suicide, and what comes next. Artist g ammondson performs cowboy blood, an embodied, dreamlike retelling of ancestral connection to the lands of the American West and the cowboys who roam them. Cole & Robbie is an absurdist duet by Lelia TahaBurt and g ammondson inspired by fractal dynamics exploring the entire universe in a single kohlrabi through puppetry, clown, and music. Emilia Seay Allen, Zosia Nowak and Sara Santoro’s mythic The Beach deploys silence, music, and expressive movement to tell a violent tale tenderly, as workers, wild creatures and the sea itself draw on ancient ways to meet contemporary cruelty.

The Debutantes festival invites audiences to explore themes of belonging, shame, ritual, death, grief, nature, and absurdity through a delightfully diverse quartet of physical theatre pieces that will cause you to gasp, sigh, and cry with laughter.
