If life consists solely of work: does that not destroy even the most beautiful love? Chremylos, a hard-working but poor Athenian potter, longs for prosperity alongside his slave and lover, Fifine. Following the oracle’s advice, he helps Pluto, the god of wealth—who has been struck blind by Zeus—to regain his sight. The god repays the favour in a way other than hoped for, advising Chremylos to sell himself and Fifine. However, as the illusion of carefree wealth begins to crumble, luck comes into play… This new play by Theater Provinz Kosmos dissects life under the rule of the god of wealth with sharp wit, in a manner that is as fantastical as it is realistic.
